Nicalis the Villains of the Vita Universe?

So Nicalis is back in the Vita collector sphere lately as a physical copy of Binding of Isaac Rebirth has surfaced, the last in the trilogy of Nicalis rumoured physical vita games the other two being VVVVVV and 1001 Spikes. PlayAsia had previously teased this release

Now Nicalis has never officially revealed it (and they more than likely never will) but the pictures look legit. There is a hole punch through the barcode which shows that this would be a sample copy for Sony employees which you would expect from an unannounced game like this. The copies of VVVVVV and 1001 Spikes which have been verified by Nicalis have this same hole punch.

Back in 2019, Nicalis had this now infamous response to the leaks when some copies appeared on eBay, legitimizing the copies and telling us they will have a full unlimited release later. However, now in 2021 over two years later these games have never surfaced. Nicalis has never commented on them again. The games go for $1000s now on eBay (when they initially went for $100ish) and anyone who considers the three as part of the full Vita set have been crying desperate tears knowing that they will likely never have these three most elusive releases.

It’s not the first time that Nicalis has made the gaming community bubble over with impotent rage. As the owner of the Cave Story IP they not only milked it for all its worth through various versions of the game and inclusion of the characters in every game they ever made, paying a one time fee to developer Pixel and then giving him no further royalties. Then they went ahead and DMCAd mods of the game which were freeware just to boost their own sales. Is all of this legally sound? Yes, but it sure ain’t gamer and consumer friendly.

So Nicalis will probably never release these three ABSOLUTE BANGERS properly, and all this surfacing has done has made the impotent rage more impotent and more rageful. Congrats to anon in his one in a million copy and lets all just quietly die inside.

Will the Nicalis releases ever become a reality?

Nicalis is the villain of every universe. Terrible, terrible company and I don’t know why indies continue to sign on with them – we’ve had enough reports of their terrible behaviour.

On the topic of Vita specifically though, remember Legend of Raven? That KoF-esque fighting game that got revealed in like 2013 and never released. How about 90’s Arcade Racer? Both of which were slated for Vita. And still don’t exist.

I consider those much worse examples than these physical releases which are nice bonuses to a collection but not an essential part of Vita’s life.

It is wild to me that Nicalis just doesn’t address any of this stuff and just gets away with it. Like just noone talks about it and its all just fine because they don’t say anything for people to attack.

Also this comment went into spam which makes me think the conspiracy goes deeper than we think.
